“WATER QUALITY UPDATE”

DATE: JULY 3, 2013

For the past 2 weeks, the City has addressed problems with the water quality (odor and taste). During this period, efforts have been undertaken at the Water Treatment Plant to manage the problem, and in addition, City staff visited the neighborhoods of citizens who reported problems to “flush” valves, etc. in an to attempt to alleviate the problem. Staff suspected a mechanical failure in the water clarification process was the root of the problem; this week we verified this and are having the equipment repaired/replaced. We believe the problem will be resolved at the latest within one to two weeks, and we will continue to handle complaints as they are reported. Complaints should be forwarded to the Water Plant staff (723-1540); this is the most efficient and effective method to gather the necessary information. Customers of Aqua Texas (outside of the City limits) should contact their provider; while the City sells treated water to Aqua, the City does not operate that system and as such any maintenance of that system, such as “flushing” valves, etc. must be done by Aqua Texas. Finally, it is important to note that during this period of undesirable water quality no tested water sample has noted to be a public health risk. City water is tested in accordance with standards set by the State of Texas. We appreciate your patience in addressing this problem and apologize for any inconvenience.
