Traffic Stop Results in Arrests of Two on Drug Related Charges

Jefferson County-Yesterday, at approximately 2:30 pm, two people were arrested on various drug related charges during a traffic stop on US 421 in northern Jefferson County.

The incident began when Trp. Randel Miller conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Corolla that was traveling northbound in the 9000 Block of US 421 in northern Jefferson County.  During the course of the traffic stop, Trp. Miller became suspicious of criminal activity taking place.  Trp. Miller’s K-9 Jinx conducted a sweep of the vehicle and alerted to the odor of illegal drugs coming from the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, Trp. Miller located suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.  The driver of the vehicle, Tia M. Rasler, age 34, Madison, Indiana was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and neglect of a dependent (due to a small child being in the vehicle).

A passenger in the vehicle, Matthew J. Oney, age 34, Versailles, Indiana was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and invasion of privacy (due to violating a protection order that was in place at the time of the stop).

Both Rasler and Oney were transported to the Jefferson County Jail where they were remanded to the custody of the jail staff.  They are both being held pending their initial appearances in court.  The juvenile child that was in the vehicle was released to a family member.

Media Note: Arrest photos of Rasler and Oney may be obtained by contacting the Jefferson County Jail.
