Modesto, CA – A multi-agency investigation continues into an officer-involved shooting that took place Monday morning in the 1700 block of Oakdale Road.

At about 8:50 a.m., bail bond agents notified dispatch that they were in the area watching 38-year-old Jason Boyd Perkins, who failed to appear on burglary and theft of a firearm warrants out of Tuolumne County. Bail bond agents also advised dispatch of an additional warrant Perkins had out of Turlock for assault on a peace officer with a firearm, evading, and auto theft. Less than an hour later, the agents provided an update with Perkins’ location and requested law enforcement respond due to the suspect being dangerous and possibly armed.

Two officers patrolling the area responded and found Perkins seated in a vehicle parked in front of Bank of America. During the initial contact, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation.

Emergency medical personnel transported Perkins to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. The officer involved, identified as Sergeant Jerry Ramar, a 15 year law enforcement veteran, was placed on paid administrative leave, which is a standard procedure with all officer-involved shootings.

Three separate and independent investigations have been launched. The Modesto Police Department is conducting both a criminal and administrative investigation and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the incident.

As we continue our investigation, we welcome any information that would help us piece together what took place. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Robert Gumm 209-342-9162.
