Update on quality of life projects and construction: roadway repaving, Northwest Resiliency Park, ADA curb ramps
Below are construction updates on the City’s complete streets and Vision Zero improvements, roadway repaving, construction on the 5-acre Northwest Resiliency Park and flood infrastructure, and utility maintenance by SUEZ.

Water Infrastructure Upgrades
The City continues with the first phase of its water main replacement project, which has replaced a total of 15 blocks, or nearly 7,000 linear feet of Hoboken’s oldest water mains. All water main construction has been completed, and final roadway restoration and complete streets improvements are underway. The following activities are anticipated the week of 11/16/20 - 11/20/20:
- Monday 11/16/20: Jefferson Street between 8th and 9th Street will be closed at times between hours of 8am and 6pm for roadway paving. Please do not walk on newly paved asphalt.
- Tuesday 11/17/20 - Friday 11/20/20: Monroe Street between 8th Street and 11th Street will be closed at times between hours of 8am and 6pm for roadway milling and paving. Please do not walk on newly paved asphalt.
- Thursday 11/19/20 - Friday 11/20/20: Monroe Street between 3rd Street and 4th Street will be closed at times between hours of 8am and 6pm for roadway striping.
- Thursday 11/19/20 - Friday 11/20/20: Bloomfield Street between 2nd Street and 4th Street will be closed at times between hours of 8am and 6pm for roadway striping.
The Contractor for this project is J.Fletcher Creamer, and the Construction Manager is CDM Smith/ENGenuity. The City of Hoboken Engineering Division is overseeing project coordination. A full-time inspector will be on site daily from CDM Smith and ENGenuity Infrastructure overseeing construction. They are also available to assist in any questions you may have. Complete Streets and Vision Zero improvements on Willow Avenue
Hudson County will be resurfacing Willow Avenue between 15th Street and the northern Hoboken City boundary with Weehawken during overnight hours this week. Willow Avenue will be closed to vehicles during paving, and this work is being done overnight to minimize traffic impacts. Parking will also be restricted on both sides of Willow Avenue from 15th to 16th Streets during paving.
Hudson County will be installing ADA-compliant curb ramps on Willow Avenue south of 11th Street, during the hours of 8am – 6pm. No road closures are anticipated, unless as directed by police on site. Parking will be restricted near intersections.
Northwest Resiliency Park
Construction continues on the 5-acre Northwest Resiliency Park, which will be New Jersey’s largest resiliency park. The park will have above and below ground infrastructure to withhold up to 2 million gallons of rainwater to help mitigate local flooding. The contractor will undertake the following activities during the week of 11/16/2020-11/20/2020:
- Continue site drainage piping to the one million gallon tank.
- Continue cutting sheet piling off below grade at the one million gallon tank.
- Begin working on the interior flushing system for the one million gallon tank.
- Continue earthwork activities throughout the site, excavating from the proposed multi-purpose athletic field and placing fill in the proposed building area.
