At approximately 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2022, Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim on Lexxus Ln., near Milledge Village Rd., Burton.

When deputies arrived, they secured the scene for Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) paramedics to respond; the adult male gunshot victim was located in a vehicle. 

At the scene, EMS paramedics attempted life-saving efforts and transported the wounded man to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital; he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Beaufort County Coroner's Office identified the deceased man as 52-year-old Malcolm Donaldson of Burton. 

Sheriff's Office investigators and the Crime Scene Unit processed the scene for forensic evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Investigators learned that the subjects fled prior to their arrival.

Evidence found at the scene indicated it was likely that more than one subject was involved in the shooting.

A forensic autopsy is scheduled to be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina on Friday, March 25.
