Suffolk County Police Major Case detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian early this morning.

Mahendra Punai fell in the roadway and was struck by a 1999 Lexus that was traveling southbound on Wheeler Road near Janice Lane at approximately 2:05 a.m.

Punai, 28, of 8749 129^th Street, Richmond Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the Lexus, Amanda Ibarra, 19, of Central Islip, was not injured.
