On Friday February 5, 2021, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed 4 felony counts against Eli Lopez for the following charges:

- 10851(a) V.C. Taking a Vehicle Without Consent
- 20001(b)(2) V.C. Hit & Run Resulting in Death
- 2800.3(b) V.C. Fleeing PO Causing Death

SUSPECT: Eli Richard Lopez, 22 years of age, from Pomona, CA.
SUSPECT VEHICLE: A Stolen 1990 Maroon Honda Accord.
UNIT: Traffic Services Bureau
On February 3rd, 2021 at about 3:51 PM, a Pomona Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a vehicle code violation. The driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Eli Richard Lopez failed to stop for the police. In an attempt to evade the police, Suspect Lopez began to drive his vehicle with a willful disregard for public safety. As a result Suspect Lopez collided with another vehicle at the intersection of San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered the driver of the other vehicle had sustained life threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the driver of the second vehicle was pronounced deceased.
Suspect Lopez fled on foot from the traffic accident scene. Suspect Lopez was located and taken into custody. Suspect Lopez was driving a stolen vehicle.
