On Monday, July 1, 2013, Sergeant Michael Keller and Emergency Services Manager Anne Widney were recognized by Chief Paul Henisey during a ceremony held at the UC Irvine University Club. Joining in the celebration were their families, fellow police personnel, and colleagues from the UC Irvine community.
Sergeant Keller is a 16 year veteran of the UC Irvine Police Department and was promoted from his former position as a Corporal in the Patrol Division. He will be assigned immediately as a field supervisor on the night shift. Sergeant Keller holds an Associate’s degree from Cypress College. He began his police career with the City of Buena Park Police Department where he served as a Reserve Police Officer for two years. After joining UCIPD in 1999, Sergeant Keller worked as a Detective, a Field Training Officer, served on various community outreach projects, and has developed and implemented new policies and procedures within the police department. Sergeant Keller has been recognized many times for his handling of major incidents and investigations as well as earning an 'Above and Beyond' award from Crime Survivors for his tenacity, determination and commitment during a domestic violence attempt murder case in 2011.
Anne Widney attended California State University, Northridge and received her Bachelor of Arts in Health Education in 2003. She went on to get her Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in 2005. Anne will graduate in December 2013 with a Master of Science in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University. Anne began her career in Public Health working for the Los Angeles Department of Public Health, Washington State Department of Health, and Dallas County Health and Human Services focusing on public health and hospital emergency preparedness. In 2011, Anne joined the UC Irvine Police Department as the Business Continuity Planner for the University. In that role, she works with departments on campus to complete business continuity plans and ensure that the University is able to recover as quickly as possible from a disaster. As part of the Emergency Services Unit of the Police Department, Anne has been actively engaged in all aspects of emergency management outreach, planning, training and exercises at UCI and looks forward to continuing to serve the University as the Emergency Services Manager. Anne was recently recognized at the UCIPD Awards Breakfast as the 2011-2012 “Civilian of the Year”.
