Important Snow Storm Information
As we prepare for yet another significant snow storm, the Morris Plains Fire Department, Department of Public Works and Police Department would like to provide residents with several important reminders.
Please assist public works by removing all vehicles from the roadway during the snow storm as well as during snow removal operations. Roadways have already become narrow from prior snow falls, and forcing the DPW to have to plow around vehicles parked in the streets not only makes their job more difficult but also results in the roadways being further obstructed by mounds of snow.
Residents with fire hydrants on or near their property are asked to help the Morris Plains Fire Department by digging out the hydrants. Precious time is lost and fire fighting efforts hampered when firefighters have to search for and then dig out hydrants that have been encased in snow and/or ice.
Residents are advised that there will be no garbage collection on Thursday, February 13th. Garbage will instead be collected on Saturday, February 15th. The normal collections schedule will resume on Monday, February 17th.
Finally, as you have probably heard, the entire state is suffering from a severe shortage of road salt. The Borough of Morris Plains is no exception to this shortage. Motorists are reminded to exercise extra caution as many roads throughout the state will be exceptionally snowy and/or icy.
Thank you very much for your assistance with these matters, and please be safe!
