LAPD conducts community workshop to prevent domestic violence, in partnership with Community and local school.

LAPD Mission Area conducted a "Truth About Domestic Violence" seminar today for parents at a local school in the Panorama City area.  The seminar was held in an effort to reduce the number of domestic violence-related crimes.

According to Detective Alarcon, Mission Area Domestic Violence Coordinator, there have been 1,225 reports involving a domestic violence-related crime in 2014.  There have been 459 arrests for Aggravated Assaults, 278 of those have been for a domestic violence crime.  That is about a 5% increase from 2013, when there were 437 arrests for Aggravated assaults.

The presentation was done by Marie Fisher,a Domestic Violence facilitator, who captivated the nearly 50 attendees with her knowledge and field experience.  Detective Alarcon and Senior Lead Officer Ayala, who works within the Panorama City Area, added their input based on the crime reports made and personal experience.

This was part of a series that LAPD Mission conducts, in partnership with its Clergy Council, within the communities that it serves, that include Sylmar, Mission Hills, North Hills, Panorama City, and Arleta.  Mission Area also offers "The Truth about Gangs" and "The Truth About Drugs."
