Actualizacion de Ballybunion / Bally Fire 09/05/17 9:00 AM

Ballybunion/Bally Fire Update 09/05/17 9:00 AM

The Bally Fire is now 35% contained and with no significant growth last night, acreage is holding at 100 acres.  Fire crews worked throughout the night on establishing and maintaining containment lines, while also providing for structure defense to prevent the loss of personal property.  Helicopters will continue water drops today while dozers and hand crews continue to work on establishing and maintaining containment lines.  No homes or structures are threatened at this time.

ROAD/PARK CLOSURES:

Santa Teresa Boulevard between Miller Avenue and south of Club Drive is open but remains subject to closure between 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM and after 3:30 PM, based on the needs of the emergency vehicles.  Residents are discouraged from walking or biking down this stretch of road to allow clear access for emergency vehicles.

The Ranch Side of Christmas Hill Park is closed to accommodate base camp for Cal Fire.  The south side of the park remains open to the public.

The walking path through the Ranch Side of Christmas Hill Park to Solorsano Middle School is closed to all foot traffic to secure the park for the base camp.

Nature and Nurture early childhood recreation classes in the TEEC Building have been relocated.  Please call 408-846-0460 for more information regarding these classes.

Solarsano Middle School students should make alternate arrangements for travel to and from Solarsano Middle School as all access from the Ranch Side of Christmas Hill Park will be closed to walkers and drivers, no school drop offs or pickups will be allowed in or near the park.

Due to the fire, air quality in Gilroy is very poor.  We recommend residents stay indoors with the doors and windows closed for safety.

While the Gilroy Fire Department appreciates the offers of donations, NO DONATIONS ARE NEEDED AT THIS TIME.  Fire Departments have everything they need and are well prepared and stocked at this time.   Please do not bring donations to Eagle Ridge, Ballybunion or any of the local fire stations.  If the need for donations changes, we will let the community know.

Thank you and please drive safely and clear access for emergency vehicles throughout the town as crews will be coming in and out throughout the day.
