Winter Storm Watch in effect for most of NH from 1:00 am on Tuesday through late Tuesday Night.
The National Weather Service in Gray, ME has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire, Coos, Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Interior Rockingham, Strafford, and Sullivan Counties from 1:00 am on Tuesday through late Tuesday night.
A cold front will cross the region today, setting the stage for a wintry storm on Tuesday. Precipitation will start around daybreak on Tuesday and spread from west to east during the morning, mostly starting as snow. The heaviest snow will be over the southern and central parts of the state during the day on Tuesday. Snow is expected to transition to sleet, freezing rain, and eventually rain for areas near the coast.
Hazard types: Heavy snowfall amounts across most of the state, with mixed precipitation near the coast.
Accumulations: For portions of central, northern, and southern NH 5” to 8” of snow are possible, with localized amounts up to 10”. For portions of central and southern NH, snow and sleet accumulations of 5” to 8” and ice accumulations of a light glaze are possible.
Timing: Early morning on Tuesday through late Tuesday night
Impacts: Difficult travel conditions, including during the morning and evening commutes on Tuesday.
Winds: Not expected to be an issue, though some minor drifting may occur.
Temperatures: Highs just above freezing along the coast and in the mid-20s in the north. Tuesday afternoon, southern NH will likely see temperatures in the mid- to high-30’s and northern NH (Concord north) will see mid-20’s.
Visibilities: Significant reductions in visibility are possible.
