12:02 p.m. UPDATE neighborhood streets
When will my street get plowed?
UPDATED Fri., Feb. 22, 12:02 p.m..
NEW at 12:02 p.m. At this point it appears that highway through lanes are in good shape. Our plows will now focus on clearing the center turn lane, and the side street intersections for approximately 100 feet from the highway into Sedona side streets. Then signalized arterials will be plowed. Given the amount of work needed for this, our estimate for plowing minor residential streets is Saturday.
Major / emergency routes are the first public safety priority. We will begin clearing neighborhood streets when snowfall tapers off and we can be assured that SRs 89A and 179 will stay in safe condition. We anticipate beginning work in neighborhoods on Saturday.
Report hazards such as downed trees and branches to the non-emergency phone at SPD Dispatch at 928-282-3100. Check ADOT's www.az511.gov site for current road conditions. NEW ADOT reports I-17 NB has reopened at the SR179 exit, although SR89A through Oak Creek Canyon remained closed. Other closures remain throughout Arizona's high country statewide, especially along the Mogollon Rim, which appears to be getting even more precipitation.
A note on neighborhood street clearing. Please note that when plows clear neighborhood streets following a significant snowfall, it is unavoidable that snow will be pushed across driveway entrances. If you are in a position to assist a neighbor who may need help clearing snow from their driveway entrance, please do so.
Sedona received 8 inches of snow as of 5 p.m. Thursday according to the National Weather Service, with additional accumulations occurring overnight and this morning. Rain or snow showers are expected to follow into Saturday, which could freeze as temperatures drop, creating icy and black-ice conditions on roadways.
Please continue to stay off the roads if at all possible. This allows our crews to clear the roads more efficiently and safely. This storm is not over -- stay safe!
