Full Notification

Residents of Grand Rapids can now receive important, official information directly from the Grand Rapids Police Department through the free Nixle messaging platform. Messages can be delivered by email, SMS text message, through social media, and over the web.
 
Notification may include: 

1. Emergency Alerts: Endangered Missing Persons, Active Violence Situation, or any information that if not immediately disseminated, could cause the loss of life or serious injury.
2. Advisories: Important information such as school lockdowns, barricaded gunman/critical incidents, unexpected major road closures, or a potential gas leak to name a few examples.  These advisories will often be accompanied with instructions for community members or areas to avoid.  
3. Community: GRPD is proud of our community engagement efforts and often we have a neat story or event that we'd like to share with you.  In order to receive "Community messages" you will need to specifically opt-in to receive those when you customize your user profile at www.nixle.com.

How to opt-in:

• Text GrandRapids to 888-777 (best if you want multiple zip code notifications but it will only be snet once)
• Adjust your notifications to your work, school, or home neighborhood by texting your zip code to 888-777
• Go to: www.Nixle.com

Information can be received in any combination:

2. Social media: @GrandRapidsPD 
3. Email: You can choose email notification when you adjust your user profile at www.Nixle.com
4. Text Messages: Text "GrandRapids" or zip code to 888-777 to opt-in.  Only Emergency alerts and Advisories will be sent as text messages unless you choose to add Community messages in your profile. Standard text message rates apply.
