Power Shutoff Update

Petaluma’s Emergency Operations Center remains active and staffed as we continue to monitor conditions.  The strong winds that were anticipated did occur through the night in the higher elevations.  Petaluma did not experience any law or fire related impacts as a result of the weather or the power outage.  Petaluma’s power outage continues to affect 4,296 customers and eight intersections.

Stop signs have been placed on barricades at each intersection.  Lighting has been added to six of these intersections to illuminate these areas (no lighting at Campus Circle intersections during hours of darkness.  Proceed with caution when approaching these intersections and remember to treat them as a four-way stop.

The red flag warning remains in effect through 5pm tonight, therefore, fire agencies will maintain additional staffing levels until the red flag warning expires.   PG&E is monitoring weather so that they can begin re-energization as soon as they determine it is safe.

We do not have any additional information about how long the current power outage will continue.  We are advising community members to plan for the power outage to continue tonight and into tomorrow.

Staff will continue monitoring information about the PG&E re-energization schedule and will share updates as soon as they are available.

To assist PG&E with power line inspections and power recovery, the City of Petaluma Municipal Airport is hosting helicopter operations.  Neighborhoods surrounding the airport may experience an increase in helicopter traffic for this important purpose.

For the areas in Petaluma that have lost power and might be operating a generator, please ensure that generators are properly installed and operated outdoors. Operating a gas generator inside could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning and/or a fire.
