Peaceful demonstration planned today, Friday, June 5

COSTA MESA, Calif. (June 5, 2020) – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) is aware of the planned peaceful demonstration at the 1800 block of Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa today, Friday, June 5, 2020. It is expected to start at 3:00 p.m. near the Triangle Square. Organizers of this peaceful protest have not contacted the CMPD and the expectations and details are not known at this time. If a large gathering forms, CMPD will post updates on their Twitter account @CostaMesaPD to inform the public on traffic alerts and potential street closures, especially if the participants decide to march.

CMPD is dedicated to giving peaceful demonstrators a safe environment to exercise their First Amendment rights. While CMPD supports the public’s right to peaceably assemble and demonstrate, it does not tolerate violence, vandalism, and destruction of property. We are thankful of the peaceful demonstrations that have already occurred in the city.

Those planning to attend are asked to please be safe, remain peaceful, respect others’ property, and report those individuals inciting violence and criminal activity.
