Sonoma man out on parole arrested for attempted murder.

On Thursday, August 13, deputies arrested James Freeman, 37 years old, Sonoma, for a stabbing in Sebastopol.

At 5:43 pm, deputies were dispatched to a house in the 4500 block of Bartleson Road for a stabbing. Deputies arrived and found the victim inside the home, as a friend was rendering first aid. A deputy applied pressure to the wound to try and stop the bleeding and requested medical personnel. Medical personnel arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital. The victim is expected to survive.

Deputies gathered information from the victim and witnesses at the scene and determined, Freeman was responsible for stabbing the victim. Violent Crime and Crime Scene detectives were called out to the scene and took over the investigation.

A deputy found Freeman driving his car in the 200 block of Andrieux Street in Sonoma. The deputy made a traffic stop on the car. Before the deputy could get out of the car, Freeman put his car in reverse and rammed into the patrol car's push bumper. Freeman surrendered and was taken into custody by the deputy. The deputy was not injured.

Freeman has a history of committing violent crimes in Sonoma County.

Freeman was later booked into the Sonoma County Jail for the following charges: attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, violation of Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS), and possession of a controlled substance. Freeman remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
