City of Petaluma Update on Sonoma County Fires, September 28, 2020
UPDATE ON SONOMA COUNTY FIRES, SEPTEMBER 28
Fires in Napa County and Sonoma County are having a devastating effect on our neighbors to the east and north.
We want to reassure the community that at this time, there is no fire threat to Petaluma.
The City of Petaluma is responding to this emergency in several ways.
- Our Emergency Operations Center is now open, enabling us to provide coordinated assistance across multiple City departments.
- City Police and Fire personnel have been deployed to assist with evacuations and firefighting.
- We are working closely with the County and local partners, such as the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds and Petaluma People Services Center, to provide care and shelter here within the City limits.
The Veteran’s Hall on Petaluma Blvd South and the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds were opened to evacuees overnight, and we opened the Petaluma Community Center as an evacuation center this morning. City staff are now working with our faith-based organizations to support with evacuation centers, food, and other needs.
Petaluma People Services Center is assisting the City with volunteer and donation management. PPSC is uniquely qualified for this role and is a trusted partner across the community. If you would like to donate or volunteer, please do so through PPSC. Start here.
Again, at this time there is no direct fire threat to Petaluma. However, because conditions can change quickly, we urge all Petaluma residents to be aware and prepared:
- Sign up for City and County Emergency Alerts
- Know Your Evacuation Route
- Prepare a Go Bag
- Help Your Neighbors Prepare
