National Weather Service Issues Red Flag Warning
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for strong, gusty winds which will be in effect from 11:00 PM Sunday, December 6th through 11:00 AM Monday, December 7th.
Offshore winds will develop tonight as low pressure drops down Nevada towards Southern California. Gusty northeast winds will develop before midnight across the North and East Bay. Winds will increase overnight and spread across much of the Bay Area by sunrise Monday.
The strongest offshore winds are forecasted for Monday morning with gusts of 45 mph for many locations. These winds will bring increased fire weather concerns for any new starts. The windiest locations will be in the hills and along the coastline Monday morning as winds come off the hills and spread down towards the coast. Winds are expected to ease by Monday afternoon. Long range forecast remains dry for next week.
* TIMING...Red Flag Warning has been issued for 11:00 PM Sunday, December 6th through 11:00AM Monday, December 7th for much of the Bay Area, including Napa County.
* WINDS... Gusty Northeast winds will arrive tonight then peak around sunrise Monday morning. Wind gusts 45-60 mph in the hills with gusts 30-45 mph into lower elevations.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY... Humidity values will stay in the moderate category about 35-50% overnight before drying Monday afternoon to 30%
* IMPACTS...Vegetation is at or near critically dry levels for early December. Outdoor burning should be avoided. Winds will be strong enough to bring down trees and branches and cause power outages. PG and E has notified us the wind levels combined with the humidity percentages do not meet their Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) thresholds for the Napa County area.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.
