National Weather Service Issues a Flash Flood Watch
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the afternoon of Tuesday, January 26th through the afternoon of Thursday, January 28th. A moderate atmospheric river will impact the region, bringing prolonged periods of moderate to heavy rain along with strong, potentially damaging southerly winds. The brunt of the storm is forecast to occur between Tuesday evening through Wednesday. Heavy rainfall could trigger debris flows and flash flooding in or near recent burn scar areas. The NWS Watch also cautions that rapid ponding of water in urban areas and areas with poor drainage may occur. Those living or driving through areas of steep terrain are cautioned that mudslides or washouts are a possibility.
A Flash Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible. A Flash Flood Warning is issued when flash flooding is imminent or occurring.
