PRECAUTIONS/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
PG&E is monitoring weather conditions, but a Public Safety Power Shutoff is not expected for this weekend, at this time. Electric service is sometimes impacted during heat events, due to high energy consumption. Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory in Effect for Napa County
The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for North Bay Mountains, including some higher elevations in Napa County, and a Heat Advisory for the valley floor. The Warning and Advisory are in effect until 11:00pm Sunday, July 11.
From the National Weather Service regarding the Excessive Heat Warning for the North Bay Mountains:
- WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with daytime temperatures of 102 to 110 expected..
- WHERE...North Bay Mountains including portions of Napa County, East Bay Hills and the Diablo Range, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County Including Pinnacles National Park.
- WHEN...From noon Friday to 11 PM Sunday.
- IMPACTS...Increased risk of heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke can occur due to prolonged exposure to hot temperatures. People most vulnerable include those who spend extended periods outdoors, those without air conditioning, young children, the elderly, and those with chronic illness.
- AFFECTED AREAS: NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS ... EAST BAY HILLS AND THE DIABLO RANGE ... SOUTHERN SALINAS VALLEY/ARROYO SECO AND LAKE SAN ANTONIO ... SANTA LUCIA MOUNTAINS AND LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST ... MOUNTAINS OF SAN BENITO COUNTY AND INTERIOR MONTEREY COUNTY INCLUDING PINNACLES NATIONAL PARK

- WHERE...North Bay Interior Valleys.
- WHEN...From noon today to 11 PM PDT Sunday.
- IMPACTS...Increased risk of heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke can occur due to prolonged exposure to hot temperatures. People most vulnerable include those who spend extended periods outdoors, those without air conditioning, young children, the elderly, and those with chronic illness.
- AFFECTED AREAS… North Bay Interior Valleys- Including the cities of Santa Rosa, South Santa Rosa, Napa, San Rafael, Petaluma, Novato, and Rohnert Park
PRECAUTIONS/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
- Limit outdoor strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day
- When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening
- Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside
- To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends
- Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible
- Do NOT leave anything with a heartbeat in vehicles, especially kids or pets
- Drink plenty of water and fluids
- Provide extra care for the elderly, very young and medically fragile
- Pets, crops and livestock may also need extra care
- Watch for hot pavement when walking pets
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion & heat stroke
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location
- Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1
- If you go to the coast to cool off, beware of rip currents
- If enjoying area lakes, please wear a life vest – they really do save lives!
- Stay in air conditioned areas if you can.
- Napa County Public Libraries are open and available to visitors seeking air conditioned spaces during normal operating hours. For locations and hours, please visit https://www.countyofnapa.org/library/
- Your city/town may open additional cooling centers during high heat events. Visit your local government office websites for information on what may be available in your community
