National Weather Service Issues Red Flag Warning

The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a Red Flag Warning for dry lightning, which is in effect from 5 PM this afternoon to 11 AM PDT Friday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
From the National Weather Service:

  • TIMING...Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.
  • WINDS...Gusty and erratic winds are possible near any showers or thunderstorms.
  • LIGHTNING...Isolated to scattered thunderstorms may develop late this afternoon and continue overnight into Friday morning. Fast-moving storms may produce dry lightning.
  • IMPACTS...Given the dry fuels, any cloud to ground lightning strikes have the potential of starting new wildfires. Rapid spread may occur with any gusty and erratic winds.
  • AFFECTED AREAS: NORTH BAY INTERIOR VALLEYS ... NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS ... EAST BAY INTERIOR VALLEYS ... EAST BAY HILLS AND THE DIABLO RANGE
A Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service when low humidity, warm temperatures, dry fuels, and strong winds could combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger. During a Red Flag Warning you should always follow the instructions of your local fire department and be prepared to take action if a fire develops in your area.  Find tips on packing a go-bag and other emergency preparedness tips here at ReadyNapaCounty.org

Napa County and its incorporated municipalities have established standardized evacuation zones for the County.  Evacuation zones are boundary specific areas identified by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office that are used during emergencies to notify the public of imminent threat or danger. In the past, evacuation zones were different for each incident; now your evacuation zone will remain mostly the same and you can learn your zone for home and work and be ready to go when an alert requesting your zone evacuate is issued. Know your zone and learn more by visiting: https://community.zonehaven.com/
