Red Flag Warning for Dry Lightning for ALL of Santa Rosa, Northbay Mountains and Valleys
A Red Flag Warning has been issued and will go into effect from 5 PM today (Thursday, 9/9) to 11 AM tomorrow (Friday, 9/10) for the potential of dry lightning and gusty/erratic winds. Thunderstorm chances will increase late this afternoon into early Friday morning. Thunderstorms will be a mix of wet (rain) and dry, but given how dry the fuels which include vegetation, trees, and season grasses are, any lightning strikes could be problematic. The threat for thunderstorms diminishes early Friday.
PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
- When thunder roars, head indoors for safety.
- Know your Zone for evacuations & have go-bags ready.
- Remove items that may be affected by winds like umbrellas and "easy ups"
- A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
