Police Investigate DUI Collision That Caused Power Outage
HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – September 28, 2021 – Hollister Police arrested the driver of a vehicle for DUI after the truck collided with a power pole on Sunnyslope Road.
On September 27, 2021 at about 7:30 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision at the 1700 block of Sunnyslope Road. Officers arrived to locate a truck, which had deployed airbags, when it impacted a power pole and damaged electrical equipment. The impact knocked out power and internet in the area.
Officers contacted the driver of the truck who was identified as Hollister resident, Zack Rigo Rodriguez (28). The driver had minor superficial injuries and displayed signs of possible alcohol impairment. Officers conducted a field sobriety test on the driver to determine if he was driving under the influence at the time of the collision.
The Rodriguez was subsequently arrested for driving while under the influence.
PG&E responded to the scene to repair the damage. Power for additional homes had to be disconnected for several hours to facilitate the repair.
Rodriguez was medically cleared at Hazel Hawkins Hospital prior to being transported to the San Benito County Jail where he was booked for DUI.
