School Bus Safety in Lakeport
The Lakeport Police Department has received several complaints of drivers failing to stop for school buses that have their red lights and stop signs activated in the City of Lakeport. We would like to remind everyone that this is not only illegal per California law but it is highly dangerous!
California vehicle code 22454(a) states that drivers must stop for school buses when their red lights and stop sign are activated. This includes drivers on the opposite side of the roadway when the roadway is not divided by double yellow lines or some kind of physical barrier. Traffic in all directions must stop even when there is a central turning lane.
The police department is committed to protecting the safety of our community and our police officers will have zero tolerance for these violations of California Law.
