ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Hilts was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court in front of the Honorable Judge Lisa W. Lorman and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: The Amsterdam Police Department was alerted to suspicious activity and conducted an investigation into the criminal sale of controlled substances by George R. Hilts occurring in the city. During the investigation George R. Hilts did sell a controlled substance to a police source. As a result of the investigation Hilts was taken into custody with the assistance of officers from the United States Federal Probation Service. A search of his person and residence resulted in a quantity of ecstasy, drug packaging materials, and U.S. currency being seized. Hilts was transported to Amsterdam Police Headquarters where he was processed on the above charges. The Amsterdam Police Department was assisted by United States Federal Probation, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
