Sheriff Villanueva Provides Recap of 2021, violent crime up, citizen complaints down. 
Yesterday, Sheriff Villanueva provided a recap of 2021 including updated statistics.
Some of the more noteworthy figures were:
In general, violent crime went up with homicides having a two-year increase of 94% and an increase in grand theft auto of 59%.
However, commendations from the public were greater than complaints and that shows the department is making progress. Body Worn Cameras have been significantly impactful with a decrease of citizen complaints of 43%.
