Sheriff's Office investigating shooting on MLK Jr. Dr., St. Helena; road temporarily closed near Penn Center 
Early this morning, Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, a shooting was reported near the Penn Center, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., St. Helena Island.
Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene and learned that two people were wounded in the shooting; both are being treated at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
A portion of the road is currently shut down.
Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area and can expect an increased law enforcement presence over the next few hours.
There does not appear to be a public safety threat.
