Man Arrested for Leandra’s Law Following Motor Vehicle Crash
Suffolk County Police last night arrested a man for Leandra’s Law for driving while intoxicated with a child in his vehicle following a crash in Huntington Station.
Denis Manzaneras-Orellana was driving a 2000 Honda sedan on East 10th Street, between Varney and Mulford Avenues, when he crashed the vehicle into an unoccupied parked car at approximately 9:20 p.m. Manzaneras-Orellana’s 12-year-old son was a passenger in the Honda.
Second Precinct Patrol officers responded to the scene and determined Manzaneras-Orellana was intoxicated. He was placed under arrest. Neither he nor his son was injured.
Manzaneras-Orellana, 34, of 79 East 2nd Street, Huntington Station, was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The 12-year-old was released to a family member.
Manzaneras-Orellana will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 7.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
