POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING; 2 KILLED, 3 INJURED
HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – March 27th, 2022 – On March 26th at 8:49 pm, Hollister Police officers responded to the 300 block of Rustic St. in regards to a reported shooting. The investigation revealed two deceased men and three additional victims with gunshot injuries. In total, five people were shot.
Hollister Police Officers arrived at the scene of the reported shooting and located two young men deceased in the driveway of a home. One additional victim was located at the scene who was conscious and was quickly transported via air ambulance. Two additional victims had been transported from the scene to Hazel Hawkins Hospital in private vehicles, prior to police arrival. One of those victims was subsequently flown to regional trauma center via air ambulance and the other was transported by ground ambulance to the trauma center.
The decedents are identified as Jaime Jesus Gomez (23 years old) and Daniel Eli Gonzalez (21 years old) both of Hollister, their next of kin have been notified by the San Benito County Coroner’s Office.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. Initial information revealed the five victims were standing outside the home when a dark colored compact SUV drove northbound on Rustic Street and opened fire as it passed the home. Multiple shots were fired at the individuals and the car quickly drove away from the scene. This incident is being investigated as a possible gang-related shooting.
San Benito County District Attorney’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and San Benito County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with the investigation and scene security. Initially, the law enforcement personnel were needed to keep people out of the crime scene. Assisting officers also canvased the area to try to identify any witnesses. We are appreciative to those agencies for the large volume of resources they provided to assist in the investigation and security measures.
