Chief Andrew Binder Confirmed by City Council as PAPD’s New Police Chief

Please join us in congratulating Chief Andrew Binder, whose appointment was confirmed last night by City Council!

He becomes the 11th chief of police in Palo Alto's 128-year history, and is well-prepared to lead our Department into the future.  Chief Binder is a 25-year law enforcement veteran, working for the first 18 years at the San Jose Police Department before coming to Palo Alto in 2015 as a lieutenant. Since then, he has promoted to captain, assistant chief, and acting chief before last night's Council action.

Chief Binder holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration from San Jose State University and a master's degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University. He is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy and has also completed the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce’s "Leadership Palo Alto" program.

Chief Binder will be authoring quarterly blog posts about Department news and activities, and we’ll be sharing them with you here on Nextdoor.

If you are on Twitter, you are welcome to follow him there at @abPAPD (www.twitter.com/abPAPD).

If you would like to watch the City Council discussion surrounding his appointment last night and hear Chief Binder’s comments, you can access that on the City’s YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8iAkkfxjGY.  The discussion begins at the 1:06:37 mark in the video.
