Juvenile detained; charged with possessing a firearm on school property 
Earlier today, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Battery Creek High School after receiving information that a student may have a firearm on school property.
The school was placed on lockdown status while deputies investigated.
The 14-year-old student who was said to have the weapon was located on the school campus. He was not found in possession of a weapon when deputies spoke with him.
The areas that the student had access to were searched by deputies. A firearm was not found.
The investigation into the incident revealed that the 14-year-old student was in fact in possession of a firearm on the school campus the day prior, Wednesday, October 5, 2022, as supported by evidence collected during the investigation.
The student has been detained at the Department of Juvenile Justice and is being petitioned to Family Court for possession of a firearm on school property.
As a reminder, no weapon of any kind is allowed on school property.
