A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for east Jefferson County until Wednesday, 11/29, at 4PM. Gusty winds and lowland snow accumulation are expected over the next couple of days.
Stay aware of weather conditions - forecasts available at weather.gov.
Travelers are advised to use caution, especially during morning commutes, as roads may be icy.
A few tips to handle the snow and cold weather.
- · Make sure you equip your vehicle for the unexpected.
- · Keep a bag of salt or sand in your trunk to melt ice.
- · Store numbers in your phone for both towing services and roadside assistance, which may be available through your auto insurance.
- · Consider keeping a well-stocked emergency kit in your car.
- · Stock up on food so you don’t have to drive on icy roads to get to the store.
- · Get some ice melt for your walkways.
- · If you don’t have to go out, stay home.
- · Winter storms can cause power outages. Be sure you have extra batteries for your flashlight and portable radio.
- · Don’t use a kerosene lantern inside your house. Use battery-operated lighting.
