News Release: Police Arrest Man for Attempted Robbery

Police arrested a man this afternoon after he tried to forcible take belongings from another man in the parking lot of a business.  The victim was not physically injured.  Police booked the suspect into jail.

On Friday, January 27, 2023, at about 12:57 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report of an attempted robbery that had just occurred in the parking lot of Winter Lodge at 3009 Middlefield Road.  A witness observed the crime and promptly called police; the victim himself called a short time later.  Police responded immediately and detained the suspect without incident in the 2800 block of Middlefield Road.

The investigation revealed the suspect had been watching the victim, a man in his twenties, in the parking lot as the victim was loading a camera and laptop into his backpack.  The suspect then approached the victim and grabbed him, in an apparent attempt to steal the victim’s property.  The victim was able to shove the suspect away from him, and the suspect then fled on foot northbound on Middlefield Road.  The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.

Police booked the suspect, 34-year-old Gerrardo Conrrequez of Palo Alto, into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for one count of attempted robbery (a felony).  His booking photo is available at www.cityofpaloalto.org/PAPDnews.  Detectives are investigating to see if he may be connected to any other robberies, but at this early stage, there is no evidence connecting him to other crimes.
