The Township of Franklin has partnered with the Somerset Community Action Program (SCAP) to create the Free Franklin Job Training Initiative.  If you reside in Franklin Township and have been unemployed or underemployed as of March 9, 2020, the Township wants to help you embark on a new career path.

Obtain your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) through Smith & Solomon, one of the largest commercial driver training schools in the nation and an industry leader for over three decades.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE (CDL) TRAINING PROGRAM
CDL A: Tractor Trailer Training-160 Hours

This program prepares you for your CDL class A license. Participants will learn the necessary skills to pass your written CDL-class A permit test. Next, you’ll learn about truck inspections and making maneuvers in a controlled environment. Finally, under supervised instruction from Smith & Solomon experienced trainers, you’ll learn to drive a tractor trailer on the road. This is where you’ll gain the knowledge and the confidence you need to operate a truck safely and efficiently.

To qualify for CDL you must:

1.       Be at least 18 years old  (21 to drive from state-to-state)

2.       Possess a valid NJ driver’s license

3.       Pass a DOT drug test and physical

Through the Franklin Job Training Initiative, the Township will cover the cost of tuition for income-eligible applicants. If additional support is needed for training supplies, transportation, and child-care services, the Township and SCAP will be able to assist with these supportive services on a case-by-case basis. Space is extremely limited.

Applications are due by April 18, 2023

To register, please review the below eligibility guidelines and document requirements:

• Applicants must be unemployed or underemployed as of March 9, 2020.
• Applicants must be residents of Franklin Township.
• Acceptable Proof of Residency:

• Current NJ Driver’s License
• Utility Bill
• Current Pay Stub

• Applicants provide proof of income AND must be within the income limit guidelines outlined below

• Federal Income Taxes
• Unemployment Verification
