Press Release: Herman Street Fire

On June 13, 2023, at approximately 22:35 hours, the South River Police Department responded to the area of Herman Street and Water Street for a report of a structure fire. Upon police arrival, an abandoned factory style building on Herman Street was observed to be fully engulfed in flames.

The six (6) alarm fire led to the response of Middlesex County Fire Marshals along with the South River Fire Department. Additionally, multiple other fire companies and EMS agencies responded with more than twenty-six (26) engines, numerous truck companies, and over one hundred (100) firefighters. Middlesex County Hazmat was on scene to monitor the air quality and for additional support as well.

In addition to the abandoned factory style building, damage to one (1) warehouse, one (1) office building, two (2) vacant residences, (1) occupied residence, and miscellaneous property was caused by fire.

The incident is considered an ongoing active investigation led by the Middlesex County Fire Marshalls Office with the assistance of South River Police Department Detectives.
