1. GRAND LARCENY 4th Degree ( E- FELONY)
ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Lewis was processed at Amsterdam Police headquarters and released on an appearance ticket to return to city court on a later date.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On June 20th Amsterdam Police were notified by a representative of a local business of an ongoing scheme to defraud that was occurring at their store on Market Street in the City of Amsterdam. The representative reported to patrol that several suspicious transactions had been occurring over the last few weeks. Further investigation determined a quantity of money missing and upon review of surveillance footage the female employee and suspect now identified as Michelle A. Lewis of Amsterdam was observed making fraudulent transactions then taking money out of a cash register and placing it into her pocket.
Later on June 20th Amsterdam patrol officers located Lewis on Market Street where she was taken into custody and transported to Amsterdam Police headquarters for processing. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
