Subject: Accident into City Hall Causing Injury
On Saturday, August 5, 2023 at approximately 5:55pm officers were on foot in the 1000 block of Villa St. when they observed a maroon Dodge Charger fail to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection of 10th St. and Villa St. The officers returned to their squads in an attempt to catch up with the Dodge Charger to conduct a traffic stop. The Dodge Charger continued traveling at a high rate of speed through the residential area and failed to stop for several more stop signs. The officers lost sight of the Dodge Charger so did not pursue the vehicle. Moments later it was reported that a Dodge Charger crashed into City Hall. The operator was trapped inside of the vehicle and had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Racine Fire Department. The 58 year old male who was driving the Dodge Charger was transported to Ascension All Saints and ultimately air-lifted to Milwaukee for his severe injuries. The male remains in critical condition.
The damage to City Hall was substantial. Also damaged was a boulevard tree, a city garbage can and a street light.
Racine Police investigators are interested in any additional information that anyone may have about this incident. Any witnesses, or citizens with information, are urged to call the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at (262) 635-7756.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stoppers by phone at (262) 636-9330, or through the Crime Stoppers app by using the p3 app.
