Arrest Investigation Update
On Saturday August 5, 2023 at about 2:30PM, the Novato Police Department was called about a harassment incident near downtown. When officers arrived, they learned Brian Collins, a 59-year-old, Novato resident, had been repetitively harassing the victim. During these incidents, Collins used racial epithets and threats toward the victim. Collins was out on bail for a previous criminal violation: https://local.nixle.com/alert/10245723/. Officers located Collins the same day and re-booked him into the Marin County Jail for stalking, making threats, hate crime offenses, and committing a crime while on bail.
We are aware that this is the second time Collins has been arrested for similar charges within the past week. At this time, the Marin County District Attorney’s Office has elected to file charges for both cases. At the Novato Police Department, we work in partnership with our community to stand up against all forms of hate expression and hate crimes. You can report all hate crimes and incidents directly to an officer by contacting our dispatch center at 415-897-4361. To report hate incidents, visit: www.novato.org/hateincident.
