The City of Fairfield, the City of Suisun City, and the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District are working together to address traffic problems involving neighborhoods around
the schools.
The Cities, District, and schools receive numerous complaints throughout the year regarding parents who drop-off and/or pick-up their students. These complaints include vehicles blocking driveways and fire hydrants, double-parking, and illegal u-turns. Not only is this behavior not neighborly, but in many cases, it is unsafe and illegal.
We continue to encourage students and parents to walk to school whenever possible. You may also decide to let your child off in neighboring parks so they can walk to campus. For
the safety of our students and the consideration of our neighborhoods, we ask parents to please show courtesy to those living around our schools and refrain from blocking driveways when picking up and dropping off students.
The Safe Routes to School (SR2S) program partners with schools, police, public health staff, city engineers, and other community members to improve traffic safety for Solano County youth. SR2S staff collaborate with school administration to bring Bike Rodeos and Bike Mobiles to the students as well as coordinate "Walk or Wheel to School Days" and "Walking School Buses."
Additionally, SR2S engineers survey existing sidewalk and road conditions and work with the District and the City's Public Works Department to determine what infrastructure improvements could be made to increase safety.
