ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Torres was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court in front of the Honorable Judge Lisa W. Lorman and was remanded to the custody of the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On August 9th, 2023 at approximately 2:09 P.M. Amsterdam Police detectives located Torres on Lincoln Avenue. Torres was the subject of a 3-month long investigation into the sales of controlled substances in the City of Amsterdam. During the investigation Torres did sell a controlled substance to a police source. As officers approached Torres he attempted to flee on foot and was taken into custody after a brief foot chase. Torres was also found to be in possession of additional illegal controlled substances at the time of his arrest. Torres was taken into custody and transported to the Amsterdam Police Department for processing where he was held for arraignment in Amsterdam City Court.

The Amsterdam Police Department was assisted by the New York State Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the office of the Montgomery County District Attorney Lorraine Diamond in this investigation, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
