News Release: Deceased Man Found on Downtown Street Early This Morning

Police are conducting a death investigation after a passerby discovered a deceased adult man on the street next to his parked car early this morning.

On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at about 6:23 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a passerby reporting a possible dead body in the 600 block of Waverley Street.  Officers and personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department responded immediately and confirmed that the person was deceased.  The decedent is an adult male.

The investigation revealed that the passerby had noticed the body laying on the ground between a legally parked green 2021 Dodge Challenger and the sidewalk.  The vehicle belonged to the man.  Police did not locate any obvious signs of foul play and have no evidence at this time that any crime occurred.  Police are not releasing the man’s identity; that information can be obtained from the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner, who will be continuing the investigation into how the man died.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at (650) 329-2413.  Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to [email protected] or sent via text message or voice mail to (650) 383-8984.
