ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Ortiz was turned over to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for further court proceedings in Montgomery County Court.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: The Amsterdam Police Department conducted an investigation into the sales of controlled substances by Jesus M. Ortiz occurring throughout the City of Amsterdam. During the investigation Jesus M. Ortiz did sell a controlled substance to a police source. As a result of the investigation the charges of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd were presented to a Montgomery County grand jury for deliberation which resulted in an affirmative vote indicting Ortiz on the aforementioned charges. On 8/11/2023 a warrant was issued for the arrest of Ortiz.
On 8/12/2023 Amsterdam patrol officers having knowledge of the active warrant observed Ortiz operating a vehicle on Market Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop where Ortiz was taken into custody without incident. During his arrest officers located drug paraphernalia and a digital scale. Ortiz was then transported to Amsterdam Police headquarters where he was processed on the above charges before being turned over to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The Amsterdam Police Department was assisted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
