Sheriff's Citizen Academy
Sheriff Lemons wants to build a better relationship and understanding between our citizens and the Sheriff’s Office, therefore he created a Citizens Academy. The academy will consist of various topics of instruction and practical exercises such as patrol procedures, criminal investigations, the court system, and detention services.
Participants will meet every Tuesday evening for 10 weeks at the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office training room. Classes will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The 10th week will consist of a graduation ceremony and meal. The academy will give Stokes County citizens a chance to meet with the Sheriff, his command staff and deputies, judges, District Attorneys, Clerk of Court, and various emergency services and court personnel.
Although graduates of the Citizens Academy do not become qualified for completing law enforcement functions, they do acquire a better understanding of the Sheriff’s Office operations and responsibilities. Citizen Academy graduates gain a greater awareness and appreciation of the difficult challenges and decisions a deputy faces every day.
“Community involvement is the most powerful force a law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime. Through the Citizens Academy, we want our citizens to become more involved in making Stokes County a better and safer place to live” says Sheriff Lemons.
The academy is open to all Stokes County Citizens over the age of 20 and you must not have any serious convictions. Anyone interested in participating in the program must complete an application and submit it to the Sheriff’s Office. Enrollment will be open for a limited time only. The class is limited to 10 Stokes County Citizens per academy class.
The first day of the Citizens Academy is 9/26/2023. Applications will be accepted until 9/8/2023.
