Advisory

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Operations Center has resumed normal daily activities.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office EOC resumed normal operations at 8:00 a.m. this morning.

All watches and warnings for our area related to Tropical Storm Idalia have expired or have been rescinded. County Council Chairman Joe Passiment rescinded the state of emergency declaration for Beaufort County at 9:00 a.m. this morning, August 31, 2023.

Sheriff’s Office communications center fielded 164 calls related to storm activity between 5:00 a.m. yesterday, August 30, 2023 and 9:00 a.m. this morning.

The largest portion of calls were received between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm (56 total) and most were related to trees or power lines down when wind speeds across the county peaked.   No deaths or injuries have been attributed to the storm at this time.

The highest wind speed recorded in the county was 66 mph at 6:19 p.m. at a recording site on Station Creek which abuts Saint Helena Island.

The only major flooding report was on Saint Helena Island when a portion of Club Bridge Road became impassable at around 8:30 p.m. due to storm surge.

Power outages were reported countywide throughout the day and evening.  There are currently 1700 customers in Beaufort County without power.

We appreciate the community’s response to this storm.  We are very thankful for the first responders, public works personnel, and utility workers who weathered the elements to keep our community safe and to mitigate damage quickly.
