Two Burglars Enter Occupied Home
Police are investigating a burglary of an occupied home that occurred around 8:30 p.m. last night. The two suspects fled after a resident yelled at them, and they remain at large.
On Thursday, September 7, 2023, at about 8:36 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from an alarm company that a burglary had just occurred at a home in the 00 block of Crescent Drive. Police responded immediately and met with the resident, a woman in her seventies.
The investigation revealed that the woman and her husband had been at home asleep. Around 8:30 p.m., they were awakened by their burglar alarm sounding. When she went to investigate, she saw two suspects inside her house downstairs. She yelled at them, and they ran out the front door. The suspects had broken the glass to one of the home’s locked rear doors and entered the home. The victim is not yet sure if anything was stolen.
This is the third time this same residence has been burglarized in the past two years. The two prior cases remain open and unsolved. Police do not know if the same suspect or suspects are responsible for all three burglaries, nor do police know if the home was intentionally and knowingly targeted a third time. For more information about the prior cases, see the news releases we distributed about them on November 29, 2021 and February 23, 2022.
The two suspects in this case are of unknown race and gender. They were both wearing hooded sweatshirts, face masks, pants, and shoes, all of which were black in color. They were also wearing gloves.
Most residential burglars commit their crimes during the day, when homes are more likely to be unoccupied and the chance of a confrontation with a resident are correspondingly reduced. If you have a side yard gate, police recommend putting a lock on it to prevent easy unauthorized access to your property. Police also recommend securing all windows and doors overnight. If you choose to hide a key outside your residence in the event you ever get locked out, recognize that involves a potential risk; as an alternative, consider leaving a spare house key with a trusted neighbor.
