ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Ortiz was processed at Amsterdam Police Headquarters where he was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On October 5th while following up on community complaints of drug activity in the area an Amsterdam Police detective observed a vehicle that had been frequenting the area commit a vehicle and traffic violation. With the assistance of a marked patrol unit a vehicle stop was initiated and a field interview was conducted on the occupants of the vehicle resulting in passenger, Jesus M. Ortiz, being found to be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine, a quantity of powder cocaine, US Currency, and drug paraphernalia including a digital scale and plastic bags. Ortiz was arrested and transported to Amsterdam Police headquarters where he was then held for processing.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
