Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Edmond Doheny, 29, in connection with fatally shooting his brother, Dennis Doheny, 19, both of Grosse Pointe Woods.
On October 6, 2023, at 12:43 a.m., the Grosse Pointe Woods Police Department received a 911 call to a home in the 1800 block of Brys Drive for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, the police found Defendant Doheny, the alleged shooter at the scene. He was placed into custody at that time. Officers went inside the home to investigate and found Dennis Doheny lying in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to his head area. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The weapon used was found on the second floor of the house.
It is alleged that the defendant shot his brother with a gun. Further facts will come out in court at the preliminary examination.
Edward Doheny has been charged with Open Murder which carries a penalty of life in prison. The charge of open murder contains both first-degree murder and second-degree murder. At trial the jury determines whether first-degree murder or second-degree murder is appropriate under the facts and evidence. He also has been charged with Felony Firearm which carries a penalty of two years to be served consecutively. *
“This is yet another case of deadly interfamilial violence. This time it is allegedly brother upon brother,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
Defendant Doheny was arraigned this morning in Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Court and given a $1,000,000 cash/surety bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 18, 2023, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 25, 2023.
