TEST - Nixle Alert System. Shakeout drill at 10:19AM, tsunami sirens will sound. Practice Drop, Cover, Hold On.
This is a TEST of the Nixle text alert system as part of the Great Shakeout drill. The Shakeout commences at 10:19 and will include a test of the tsunami sirens at Point Hudson, Point Wilson, and in the boatyard in Port Townsend with a full siren wail. Again, this is ONLY A TEST.
The Great Shakeout is the world's largest earthquake drill. Everyone is encouraged to participate by practicing Drop, Cover, and Hold On as if it were a real earthquake. Find out more at shakeout.org.
Nixle messages are sent at three levels of severity. To change your alert settings, head to https://local.nixle.com/accounts/login/ and create an account if you haven't already. All requests for assistance can email [email protected] (we cannot see or access your accounts here at Jefferson DEM).
The three severity levels are:
- Community, non-emergency FYIs such as community events or occassional pre-planned road closures. We rarely use this setting at DEM. Most people may choose to receive this via email as they are not time-sensitive.
- Advisory, our most commonly used alert type, we mostly use this for road closures due to accidents, fires, or law enforcement activity. These are for emergent events that may require your attention but are not life/safety threatening. We typically only send advisories between 7AM and 9PM.
- Alert, our highest level alert. This is used for events that may be a threat to safety, like a tsunami advisory or severely degraded air quality.
Again, head to https://local.nixle.com/accounts/login/ to choose what and how you want to recieve alerts. This test was sent at the "alert" level to reach the most users.
If you have questions, please reach out to us at [email protected]
Instructions:
This is only a test - no action is required. Practice Drop, Cover, Hold On at 10:19 if you are able; update your Nixle settings per the instructions in the message if you desire.
