News Release: Police Investigate Second Attempted Robbery in Midtown

News  Release: Police are investigating an attempted robbery case that occurred yesterday morning, where the suspect unsuccessfully attempted to pull a purse away from a female victim.  The victim was not physically injured and the suspect is at large.

On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at about 11:00 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a woman in her forties reporting a robbery attempt that had occurred around 10:20 a.m. in the parking lot of a pharmacy located at 2605 Middlefield Road.

The investigation revealed that the victim had been walking through the pharmacy parking lot when a male subject riding a skateboard approached her from behind.  The suspect grabbed the strap of the victim’s purse but she was able to pull away from him and continue walking, at which point he fled.  The victim was not physically injured and did not lose any property.

The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his twenties or thirties with a thin build, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.  A surveillance image of the suspect entering a nearby store is attached to this release.

Detectives believe that the same suspect may be responsible for a similar attempted robbery that occurred on October 9th on the 2800 block of Middlefield Road.  For more information about that incident, read the news release we distributed about it on October 10th.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at (650) 329-2413.  Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to [email protected] or sent via text message or voice mail to (650) 383-8984.
